Position Overview
The Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach will work closely with the Head Varsity Coach Madison Moore to support the development of student-athletes, contribute to a positive team culture, and assist with all aspects of the varsity basketball program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong basketball knowledge, effective communication skills, professionalism, and a genuine ability to connect with and mentor young athletes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices, skill development, drills, and team activities.
- Provide instruction and support to student-athletes in basketball fundamentals, team concepts, conditioning, and game strategy.
- Assist with game preparation, including scouting opponents, developing game plans, and preparing players for upcoming competition.
- Participate in film study and analysis to evaluate team performance, identify areas for improvement, and prepare for opponents.
- Assist with game-day responsibilities, including warm-ups, bench responsibilities, player development, and in-game adjustments as directed by the Head Coach.
- Help establish and maintain a positive, competitive, and respectful team culture.
- Build positive relationships with student-athletes while serving as a strong role model and mentor.
- Communicate effectively with players, coaching staff, parents, school personnel, and community members.
- Assist with maintaining team equipment, facilities, and overall program organization.
- Support the program's social media and promotional efforts, including providing appropriate content, highlights, updates, and information that positively represents the team and school.
- Attend practices, games, team activities, meetings, and other basketball-related events as required.
- Follow all school, district, and athletic department policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Perform other duties related to the basketball program as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Administration.
Practice & Seasonal Commitment
- Practice Schedule: Approximately 3:00–5:30 p.m. daily
- Season: October 1 through March
- Must be available to consistently attend scheduled practices, games, film sessions, meetings, and other required team activities throughout the season.
- Additional time may be required for game preparation, scouting, film study, travel, tournaments, and postseason competition.
Qualifications & Desired Skills
- Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and game preparation.
- Ability to work effectively with middle and/or high school-aged student-athletes.
- Strong communication, organization, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching staff.
- Positive attitude and commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with students and families.
- Commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and competitive environment for all athletes.
